Monitoring your kids internet access is essential. There are many online threats and your kids may get exposed to content you may not want them exposed to. Cyberoam created a unique solution that called NetGenie. The device is a wireless router with family protection.

The NetGenie wireless router provides home networks with antivirus protection and parental restrictions at the network level while giving the users the ability to wirelessly connect.

With mobile devices like iPods, iPads, and laptops, kids are more connected now than ever before. In my household all four of my children have some sort of device that allows them to connect to our home network. It sometimes becomes a task to insure they are not being exposed to content that I would not approve of. I also want to keep their devices safe from viruses, which can become expensive on as many devices as we have in our home. I have the perfect type of a household with needs that the NetGenie covers.

The NetGenie is an all in one Wireless solution for home networks. The entire network is protected by the build in antivirus. You are able to create your network with a 3G mobile device by connecting via USB. The router allows for printers, PC, Mac, and mobile device connection. Once your network is set up you can also share your internet connectivity and control what users have access to, including guests.

After connecting the NetGenie to the modem, each device simply connected using the secure password that was provided with the wireless router. At the initial login I was taken to a set up page to set up the device. Then I was able to set up a user profile for each of my kids. This was not too hard or cumbersome to set up, but did take some time to specify what types of sites they could access. I was also able to set up times that they could be online. What I did not like was that each user had to log in each time they wanted to access the internet. I would have liked to restrict devices rather than users. You can access reports for each user to see what sites they have attempted to view and what sites they are frequenting.

The NetGenie is small and has 2 antennas for better range. Compared to some of the routers that are available at stores today, I thought the device was a bit large.

The NetGenie by Cyberoam sells for $200. With the purchase of the router you also receive 3 years of anti-virus updates. After that you would need a subscription to maintain the antivirus database.

If you are interested in purchasing the Cyberoam Netgenie wireless router you will need to fill out this form on their web site.
